Collecting and providing data via REDCap Database

In 2018 my colleagues from the study group “Epilepsy” at the department of neurology, UKSH Kiel and I started to do an ongoing prospective phenotyping of all stationary and ambulant patients with epileptic seizures via REDCap database.
REDCap (Research Electronic Data Capture) is a browser-based, metadata-driven EDC software solution and workflow methodology for designing clinical and translational research databases. We are collecting, among other findings, features for each individual patient, such as semiology of the epilepsy, drugs which are used for treatment, diagnostics and their results, the clinical process of the illness, results of neuropsychological testings, results of the cerebrospinal fluid analyses etc.
As an added value for the GRK 2154, we hope to use the REDCap database to extract features and to identify a patient cohort, which could be suitable for an intracranial therapy concept or rather a closed-loop-approach in the future. In addition to that, we are providing access to adult patients with epilepsy and providing our clinical expertise for further GRK projects.
